Trees of change - SOLD

Plant a seed, grow a tree
In rhodium, gold and filigree
Whisk me up and ruffles my leaves
See me grow into a big strong tree

Erina - SOLD

Dear Erina the heartbreaker,
With pure white glass tears dripping down those beautiful orbs you call eyes, one can only hear the sound of the heart shattering, while desperately trying to soothe your little heart that races in trepidation and fear. Bring this girl home if you may, and take the duties of a caretaker's out of my hands. For this girl may scurry in fear in her tiny little 4cm frame, a tender arm around her shoulders from a well meaning-ed mother and a soothing lullaby will ease it all, far beyond a caretaker's hands and song.

Yours sincerely,
Caretaker

P.S. Yes adoption fees is at SGD22 and there's only 1 child, not a single more.

Freya - SOLD

Darling little chirpies on tensha like porcelain beads. Traditionally tensha beads are acrylic based, however these are porcelain versions in elongated rectangular puff shape. Rather matching for an idyllic afternoon with tea and scones. Maybe a day without the scorching heat and clingy humidity would go just fine for a perfect afternoon. All gold accents are 14k gold plated.

Woodland Creatures - SOLD

Since we're going ecologically conscious, here's one little necklace to champion the cause. No, not entirely since we're chopping trees for fashion now. These cute little woodland creatures were laser cut for precision, to attain maximum detail in attention to detail Germany. I love how these organic items are now part of fashion, very chic i say. Strung on leather cord for flexibility, length adjustable from 12" (choker length) to 22". Pendant measures 6cm in height and 4cm width. If you'd prefer it on 14k gold plated chains or rhodium chains, indicate your preference when you drop me a mail. Full length image here.

Tribeca - SOLD

For a period of time i was rather fascinated with shell and mother of pearl beads, and i guess the fascination is back with a twist. In fact i've come to notice that abalone shells are one of the few beads that has really interesting shapes to play with. Most gemstones tend to come with rather similar cuts and for a person like me who relies on shapes of materials a lot as a design factor, i'm also beginning to feel a little stifled. So imagine my delight to find such a lovely shape to work with! I've kept it really simple so as not to detract from the high sheen and unique qualities of the abalone shell. Tribeca measures 3.5cm excluding stainless steel earhooks. Wires used are argentium silver.

Wing Accents - SOLD

Decided to do a bit of wire crafting to experiment and see what i could do with a one time try without ruining the wire. Guess i did a pretty ok job huh. Imported black cubic zirconia butterflies and brass swallow charms on tarnish resistant wires. Wing Accents measures 4.5cm excluding 14k gold plated earhooks.

Naomi - Sold

Naomi celebrates spring by lying down on the grass and watching the azure skies cloak the days with colours soft and cheery. Imported yellow cubic zirconia butterflies, aquamarine nuggets, swarovski crystals with full sterling and argentium silver hooks, chains and wires. Naomi's kinda zesty, a good way to inject some life into 2008 after its first quarter. Measures 5cm excluding sterling silver earhooks.

Dusk - SOLD

I finally gave in to my sickness of over 3 weeks and saw a doctor. Not surprisingly he told me it's clearing up, but gave me an mc and insisted i take a good rest and not go to work. So here i am taking pictures of a necklace i completed over the weekend. This little darling would be rather charming against a crisp shirt or blouse, quite lovely for work i'd say. The bronzite oval, zebra jasper coin and cream pearls make for a rather elegant do. More close up shots of it here, here and here. Dusk measures 22.5" inclusive of pendant. One piece only.

Kitty on a stove - SOLD

Brass kitty charm sits atop a white hot stove all this while being dangled from a 14k gold plated chain. No kittens were harmed in the processed of this necklace. Kitty & stove measures approx 4cm, while chain measures approx. 26", adjustable to wearer's preference. Kitty on a stove in more flattering light, here.

Lisianthus - Sold

The lilac hues have continued, perhaps i could stretch this into a monthly theme. That'll be quite an interesting concept to ponder upon. I've decided to work with Sagit's lovely polymer clay beads from Israel. With lovely mocha and violet blooms, I've matched the elements to the colors in the clay bead with a wooden donut, gold trimmings, glass beads of the lilac shade and an amethyst nugget.

I love how the shape of the amethyst nugget gives the bracelet a slightly chunkier feel without losing the feminine feel, while the wooden donut and gold trimmings is a play on more elements than i usually do within a bracelet. But i do like the overall outcome to it. *beams*

Incidentally Lisianthus also symbolises an outgoing person. Some other interesting flowers and what they mean include Alstroemeria - friendship, Lilac - youthful innocence, Orchid - belle. Find out more about what some other flowers mean here.

I will plant you a lilac tree - SOLD

As promised, I will plant you a lilac tree is a little darling of lilac roses and aquamarine faceted diamonds. I will plant you a lilac tree measures a petite 3cm excluding earhooks.

"'Tell me what you remember most about home,' Dick asked me one evening.

'A lilac tree,' I said. 'It bloomed every May around the time of Mama's birthday. Papa was a romantic; he would stand under the tree and sing songs of lilacs and love to her. The memory is so vivid in my mind, I can almost smell the lilacs now.'

'One day, when this is over, I'll plant you a lilan bush. Perhaps it will grow old and become a tree, like the one you remember.'

For that brief moment, I allowed my heart to swell with joy."

I Will Plant You A Lilac Tree, Laura Hillman.

Sometimes while naming my earrings, I come across books and things that pique my interest. This is one of them. Maybe in time i'll get to appreciate the story behind Laura Hillman. To feel for an object of nostalgia that fills your heart with so much joy is a personal discovery. I like personal discoveries. *smile*

lacuna

lacuna \luh-KYOO-nuh\, noun;
plural lacunae \luh-KYOO-nee\ or lacunas::
1. A blank space; a missing part; a gap
2. (Biology) A small opening, depression, or cavity in an anatomical structure.

The exodus of wives, relatives, friends and hangers-on had left a big howlinglacuna which wrapped the homestead in webs of glorious nostalgia.
-- Moses Isegawa, Abyssinian Chronicles

So I've disappeared for 3 weeks now. I was busy job hunting on the first, and busy working on the 2nd & 3rd. I'm slowly trying to work my way around my work and life and continue this. Rest assured I won't close down Earring Addict, simply because I've been ordering way too many beads even when I haven't been crafting and i'm too selfish to sell the gorgeous beads to someone else. So, give me some time to work around my current schedule and i'll be back! Alright i'll aim for an upload or two this Saturday or Sunday. If i don't do it you girls are welcome to hound me for it. =)

Maybe i should share a little bit on what i'm doing since i'm on this topic as well, sorta like a quick update. I'm working in an advertising agency as an account executive and basically i'm the middleman between the client and our creative team. My job is to translate what my client wants to the creative team. So this is what i do for work right now. I took a B.Psych before this thinking i would one day save the youths or help people from their suffering. After 3 years I realised i'm not mentally strong enough to help other ppl for a vocation. It really takes a lot out of anyone and I don't think i am up for that. Kudos to those who do it for work everyday, they really are true unsung heroes.

Earring Addict kind of got me very into marketing and analysing consumer behaviour, which was one of my interests way before psychology. In fact i'd credit that to my ex-boss in sales for all his wonderful insights. I don't see advertising very far off from psychology, although my parents may not really think so. Afterall consumer behavior is a facet of human behavior. So, yep. =)

And since I managed to go off tangent while typing the above paragraph to churn out this paragraph below I guess i'll leave it around for you girls to know a little bit more about me.

Earring Addict also returned me to a hobby which i enjoyed when I was 12yrs old. Yes i started making jewelry then. I remember buying beads from this little shop in Toa Payoh central. It's also the shop where i subsequently bought lots of thread to make friendship bands. Then i stopped. I took 4 years of art, never got too good in it, but i did particularly well in jewelry design. I guess that part of me never ever went away and i'm quite happy to be back into it once again. Earring Addict has a much more stronger meaning to me than anything else because it showed me what i really liked, throughout the years, and perhaps dare i say, good at. To find something that you have a natural flair for and something that you enjoy is something i hope everyone finds in their lifetime. It is also why i won't give it up, coz this holds much more meaning to me than anything. Ok this is getting a bit way to soppy and mushy, but yes now you know why I embrace Earring Addict more as time goes by. Maybe one day i'll go get a proper degree in jewelry design and fulfill my dream of being a jewelry designer and a jewelry shop owner, much like my dream was when I was 14. In the meantime bear with my absence, but i'll be back with prettier and more charming designs that comes from my heart. Ahh the bliss.

Love,
Dawne

Agathia - SOLD

Finally I get to use the malachite stones that I've gotten from quite some time back. I was introduced to this exquisite stone when I was in Japan last year and I just fell in love with them. There's something really alluring about the multiple bands of luscious green. Kinda reminds me of nature. Teamed with african prehnite square and a lovely polymer clay garden lentil by Ginette of Swiss Beads, this is quite a charmer. A gold plated crown toggle clasp ends of this 7.5" beauty. Length adjustable to wearer's wrist.

Amaranth - SOLD

I laid out the beads for this bracelet for some time trying to think of a manner to jazz it up without doing something i've done recently. Sometimes i just wanna change the style, keep thinking and moving or something, without ending up looking like i've adopted another person's style. I'll have to admit it's really not easy. After completing the supposed skeleton, i decided to try it on, and nearly didn't want to take it off. =P So instead of something with lots of chains multi stranded and all over the place, Amaranth has been kept simple. 14k gold plated toggle and parts make up the full 7.5" Amaranth.

Something Old Something New - SOLD

Did up this necklace last night thinking about how well it truly fitted the theme of ushering in the New Year. This truly is eclectic and I hope your year ahead would be as amazingly fun as this kitschy necklace! Gunmetal chain measures 24", can be adjusted to suit the wearer. One piece only, no remakes.

I've had a wonderful 2007 and time truly flies really fast. May 2008 be a wondrous year ahead for all of us!

Avon - SOLD

I seem to have a penchant for grey recently. I just like how calm and soothing it is, and not too stark like black. Grey banded onyx connected to swarovski pearls, polymer clay lentil in tones of grey, brown and mauve are linked to a swarovski crystal chain and plated chains for an understated casual glamour. Bracelet measures 7".

Providence & a time of consolidation

Many thanks to all those who made it down today and thank you for all the presents!! Especially the lady who gave me a box of ferrero rocher when I wasn't around, please drop me an email to let me know who you are. It really feels wonderful to be appreciated by you wonderful ladies and just chatting with y'all really made my day and affirms how much I enjoy doing this and meeting you all. It really has been my pleasure knowing y'all, which if I hadn't embarked on this journey, I wouldn't have met.

A little story about me, jewelry design and art. I used to do badly in art in my secondary school, always scoring borderline grades. In Sec 3 I had to choose a subject to take, it was between art, accounts or home econs. I can't cook, I managed to cheat my way through the 2 years by pairing up with a wonderful cook and I loved washing dishes, we did very well in homec that way; I couldn't count for nuts and still can't count for nuts, just look at my accounts after each event, both my bf & Jacq laugh at me, the numbers rarely tally, it is quite sad. So i had to settle for art even though I wasn't very good in it, it was the lesser of the 3 evils i guess. The only submodule that I really did well in was jewelry design, but I never ever thought that I'd come back one full circle almost 10 years later. I still wonder if it was because i had the same art teacher for 4 years resulting in my really bad grades in art for all 4 years, or was i just not talented in that area. And 12 years ago back when I was still a kid, I used to go to this bead shop in toa payoh central to buy plastic shiny beads to make stretchable bracelets. Who would have thought I'd be doing this 12 years down the road. Lol.. Either way I just wanna say life surprises us in many ways more than one. ;P

Have a lovely one all you wonderful ladies whom I'm glad our paths crossed. A wonderful christmas and a merry new year.

Love,
Dawne

Crafty things

This was just something I came across while searching for other crafty stuff, maybe you might find it useful.. =) http://readymademag.com/blog/2007/12/20/the-last-straw/

The Last Straw

necklace.jpg

It’s a travelin’ time of year. No matter where you may be headed, here’s a tip that’ll make packing—and unpacking—a little less painful: Use plastic drinking straws to keep jewelry from getting tangled during your journey. Simply unclasp the necklaces or bracelets you plan to take with you, thread the chain of each one through a straw, and refasten the clasps (you may need to trim the straws down a bit) to ensure that your bling arrives knot-free.

Hehe Merry Christmas y'all!! =) I love Christmas!! Especially when shared with a special loved one. Hehehehe..

Love,
Dawne

Bluebells - SOLD

Blue cloisonne rings envelope clear swarovski crystals and a blue agate round, while supporting cream pearls and a aqua/lilac chalcedony teardrop below. To show the lovely blue agate's translucency I took a pic of it dangling with the block opposite as the backdrop. Hope the background's not too distracting for you to appreciate the blue agate. Bluebells measure 4.5cm excluding 14k gold plated earhooks. This will most probably be my last update for this week, maybe if the sun's still bright I may manage some sneak peeks of the items that's coming along for the christmas party tomorrow! =) For those who are new from laissezfaire, you're welcome to join us for the party tomorrow as well, just drop me a note! And no, please don't be shy. =)

Garden Party II - SOLD

I couldn't make an exact remake of Garden Party, but I could make a sister with the last clay round in a similar design from Jacqueline. Must scold her for selling beads in odd numbers. Hahaha. Ok lar sayang I still love you. With the same jumble of charms and shiny stuff in a different configuration (sounds really IT-ish, pardon me) with an addition of a rose quartz carved rose atop the fairy, this time Garden Party is mismatched with a purpose! Garden Party II measures 4.5cm excluding 14k gold plated earhooks.

November Rain - SOLD

It's got the purplish and greyish tones that seems to remind me of the band that sang November Rain. I tried many times to get the translucency of the grey chalcedony teardrops onto the picture, but I just can't seem to do it. It's definitely a lot lighter and less greyish in color in real life. Even my lousy photoshop-ing skills wasn't enough to translate the picture, sigh. November rain measures 4.5cm excluding stainless steel earhooks. Argentium silver wires for all wire wrapping.

Smitten - SOLD

This was a bracelet I very much wanted to keep for myself. I made a piece for the Fashion Fusion event 2 weeks ago and before I had a chance to take a photo of it, a very lovely customer snapped it up, so I did a remake just so that I could capture it in print. I love how the apatite and amethyst match off in a very wonderful manner. In fact on its own the apatite beads weren't as pretty nor as inviting as it is together with the amethyst round. Karin's brocade lentil capped with czech two toned fire polish glass beads on both ends. Bracelet measures slightly over 7" at 18.5cm long, adjustments will be made to suit the wearer's wrist.

Summer Blooms - SOLD

A simple colorful piece using a lovely polymer clay teardrop imported from Isreal and a bling ring with encrusted crystals. The polymer clay bead is really spectacular in real life due to its multiple layering with superb skills. Something that I don't really have the patience to learn on my own, at least not as of yet. :P 14k gold plated chain currently measures 18", adjustable at your request.

Toffee Nut Frappe - SOLD

Mexican Crazy Lace Agate teardrops for a simple t-shirt and jeans combi. Simply perfect for the weekends. These are the loveliest shade out of the entire strand coz of it's softer brown and mocha colors. If you prefer them in more white-ish tones or brownish tones let me know and i'll pick them out accordingly. Teardrops measure 3.5cm excluding 14k gold plated earhooks.

Love is in the air - SOLD

As with the feelings of joy and cheer as christmas descends upon us. The air is filled with the love we have for one another, our family, friends and loved ones. Love is in the air ties up the angelite semi precious stones that is supposed to enhance communication within yourself and others, your pretty self in the polymer clay bead and the bling bling we give to others as an expression of our love for them. The blinger the present, the closer the person is to you isn't it? Well that's the case for me generally. Bracelet measures 7.5" adjustable to suit the wearer's wrist.

Apparently angelite enhances telepathy especially if both people are holding onto the stones. Something for you and your bestie?
